Strong Comebacks at Yonex Sunrise India Open 2024
NEW DELHI, India – The YONEX SUNRISE India Open 2024 came to an exciting close on Sunday, January 21st. Concluding with a spectacular display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship, Team Yonex left fans on the edge of their seats. The 2024 India Open, showcased some of the world's top badminton talent as they battled for glory in the finals across various categories.
In the mixed doubles final, fans were treated to a spectacle of versatility as Sapsiree Taerattanachai and Dechapol Puavaranukroh (THA) seamlessly transitioned between attacking and defensive roles against opponents Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin (CHN). Sapsiree and Dechapol displayed exceptional synchronization and managed to claim their first title of the year in two games. The final score was 21-16, 21-16.
In women’s doubles Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara (JPN) battled against Malaysian Open 2024 finalists Zhang Shu Xian and Zheng Yu (CHN).
Determined to make 2024 their year, Matsumoto and Nagahara made quick work in the finals finishing in just two swift games, making this their first Super series title in 3 years. The final score stood at 21-12, 21-13.
Continuing with the two-game win streak, men’s singles Shi Yu Qi (CHN) emerged victorious from a rebuilding period against opponent Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu. The battle was hard-fought, the intensity palpable as Shi and Lee engaged in fierce rallies showcasing their repertoire of shots. Determined to make a strong comeback Shi Yu Qi claimed the match with a score of 23-21, 21-17.
In men’s doubles, 2023 World Tour Finals champions, Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae (KOR) faced off against 2023 Indonesia Open champions, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty (IND) in a thrilling three game match. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as the pairs engaged in intense rallies, pushing each other to the limits. Rankireddy and Shetty started off strong claiming the first game quickly, but Kang and Seo were determined to add another title to their recent upward mobility. The Korea pair claimed the final two games with an overall score of 15-21, 21-11, 21-18.
